An extension of the South China Morning Post’s flagship China Conference: Hong Kong, Hong Kong Roars! is a brand-new virtual festival that puts the spotlight on iconic and emerging Hong Kong brands that best represent the resilient spirit of our beloved city.
Featuring the people behind homegrown brands from the world of journalism, music and F&B, we will dive into their backstories, understand their brand's DNA and learn how they’ve coped during the pandemic. Attendees have the chance to participate in each interactive session, which are designed to educate, entertain and inspire.

Virtual Concert with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra & Lio Kuokman
Cultural Partner:
The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) and its Resident Conductor Lio Kuokman present a programme which showcases music from the East and the West, echoing the vibrant cultural mix of Hong Kong.
Celebrated Chinese composer Tan Dun is a master at weaving traditional Eastern elements into Western symphonic forms. He won an Oscar for his original music for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and later created a concert work from the classic score, for solo cello and orchestra, played here by renowned cellist Trey Lee and the HK Phil.
This virtual concert opens with The Unanswered Question, a work exploring “The Perennial Question of Existence” by one of America’s most innovative and original composers, Charles Ives.

Cocktail Workshop with Fok Hing Gin & Paul Harper-Cox

Infused with the beautiful chaos of the place we call home, Fok Hing Gin is a simply delicious drink from a pretty complicated place. All the light, colour, sound, atmosphere, variety and mayhem of the city, but their Gin Master tried to distill it all into a drink.
This session begins with a fireside chat with Paul Harper-Cox, the man behind the idea of combining the best of gin-making of Britain with the spirits and flavours of Hong Kong.
Participate in an at-home cocktail workshop with a simple to follow recipe, a free sample bottle of Fok Hing Gin*, cocktail ingredients and mixing tools, perfect for a Friday afternoon. Posting a photo of your homemade cocktail on social media with an original name will allow participants to stand a chance to win a 6-month supply of Fok Hing Gin.

Cantonese for the World with Luisa Tam
Best known for her informative and entertaining videos teaching and explaining the nuances of the Cantonese language to the world, Luisa Tam has a career in journalism spanning three decades, most of which were spent at the South China Morning Post.
Through her columns “The Naked Truth” and “My Hong Kong”, Luisa deep dives into social and societal issues, often tackling sensitive subjects such as sex and race head-on. She has a huge following in Asia and among Asian diasporas from around the world.
In this one-on-one fireside chat, we talk with Luisa about her career with the Post and look behind the scenes of her popular videos. Fans will also be able to engage with her directly through our live Q&A session.
